  1. One of the main disadvantages of injection molding is that it may require a high initial cost that consists of tooling and machinery costs.
  2. If you want to make small runs of parts. It may be expensive.

  1. Low cost and Simplicity – Compression Molding demands low cost and is very simple to do the process.
  2. Little waste – Less plastic waste is produced in compression molding when compared to other ways of manufacturing plastic.

These are some of the advantages of compression molding. Now let’s look at some of the disadvantages of compression molding.

Disadvantages of Compression Molding

  1. Time Consuming – Compression Molding takes a lot more time compared to Injection Molding and other processes because you manually need to finalize the manufactured product.
  1. Bad at complex shaping – It won’t be smart if you choose compression molding to make complex shapes. It works okay with less complex or box-like shapes.

Injection molding or Compression Molding: Which one should you choose?

Well, it’s mostly up to the product you need to design or manufacture. For example, if you don’t have enough money and you want to make a simple structure like a toolbox then you can look forward to compression molding.

On the other hand, if you can afford the high initial cost of injection molding and you have some complex shapes to manufacture then you should go for injection molding. Plus injection molding takes a lot less time compared to compression molding.
