How do you distinguish between private label and white label products?
Unfortunately, there is a lot of confusion with these similar terms. While often being used interchangeably, you simply get an adapted existing product from a white label manufacturer. The product you buy from a private label manufacturer in turn is usually an exclusive design with some exclusive customizations. This exclusivity usually requires paying for some of the development cost and the exclusivity is often somewhat limited. It requires quite large order sizes and commitment. We can also provide and implement these legally binding agreements; however, for most simple products they are usually not necessary. If you have larger volumes and some more specific changes that can be protected, we can gladly talk about the options here. Since we as your private label supplier control the production process completely, you don’t have to worry about people making use of your product changes.
When do I need your custom manufacturing solutions for electronics, garments, or plastics, and when is this private label solution?
Private label manufacturing is applicable to all somewhat standard products that are usually well established in the market. These can simply be adapted without much engineering and development effort. In contrast, our electronics, garments, and plastics solutions are dedicated to product design and development from scratch. This is a lot more effort and takes more time. Good indicators for a simple private labeling project are when only design and packaging aspects have to be customized for wholesaling. Sometimes is a bit difficult to tell if a private label product with some adaptions is sufficient. We always try to make find a private label option since the development cost is so much lower. What are the lowest quantities that I should plan for to make private label products?
There is no clear threshold that is always the minimum. It depends on the product and the customizations first and foremost. The higher the quantity the more options we have while keeping the price reasonable. You should always plan with an overall project value of a few thousand dollars and about 5,000 units. Private label manufacturing requires that we open a separate production line, print packaging, and components. There is a fixed cost associated with that and super low volumes are usually not feasible. Furthermore, the entire design and product selection process along with quality monitoring and logistics are only reasonable when there is some volume. Our goal is always to become your long-term manufacturing partner and many of our existing clients re-order and improve/adapt/expend their products regularly with us as their private label supplier. Why shouldn’t I just order private label goods on Alibaba? What are the benefits?
There is not only the general risk when you order products on Alibaba or through other online private label wholesalers, but there are also limited choices, less customization potential, fewer logistics options, and no long-term reliability to grow your private label brand. Small product differences and greater attention to detail can make a huge difference for private label products. Rest assured that you will always be able to re-order the same product and adapt it in the future. We do as much as possible in-house of manufacturing and only work with long-term suppliers. This means for instance that we can always provide any packaging options, that we can combine products from different suppliers, and always check the quality consistently. Many private label wholesalers on online platforms are simply trading companies that just sell various products and don’t have control over the actual production line. Moreover, you can rely on us as your private label company on timely deliveries, protection of intellectual property rights (IPR), real product certifications, and reliable quality control. What are the different logistics options you can arrange? Is it possible to send goods directly to Amazon warehouses?
Any logistics channels to pretty much anywhere in the world can be arranged directly by us as your all-in-one private label manufacturer. Naturally, you can decide to do the logistics for your private label brand product yourself from our facilities (EXW). If you want to go with us, we most commonly ship from Asia to the US/Canada, Europe, or Australia/New Zealand. This can be done by airfreight, sea freight, or rail freight (mostly only relevant for Europe). Furthermore, you can decide if you want to do the customs paperwork yourself or not. Many of our customers like to get the goods to their door just as any other domestic shipment, which means that we do everything for taxes, tariffs, and customs (DDP). This is quoted in advance so that it’s all agreed upon beforehand. We can also deliver this way to any warehouse, whether from Amazon or other fulfillment centers. This just requires some coordination beforehand with respect to submitting the right packing list to the warehouse and providing us with the correct shipping labels. It’s easy to arrange and you can wholesale or deliver the goods easily from those locations.
